You may have received an email stating your SSL certificate vendor will add up to 3 months to your new SSL certificate to allow you to renew today without losing any of your existing certificate validity period. This is a grace period added to the front-end of your new SSL certificate. This is provided so that you can install your new certificate without waiting for your old certificate to expire.
For example, if your old SSL certificate is set to expire a month from now, and you purchase a new SSL certificate from the same provider, your new SSL certificate can be installed immediately, as it has an extra month added to the front-end to make up for the leftover time on your old SSL certificate. This is helpful, because now you do not have to wait until your old certificate expires to install your new one!
